Göteborgs Cricket Club (GCC) was established in 1972 by passionate expatriates from the United Kingdom and Australia. Their dream was simple: to play cricket and foster the growth of the game. Over the decades, the club has evolved, welcoming a significant influx of players from cricket-loving countries like India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh since the year 2000. This new generation, alongside the original members, has carried the torch forward.

GCC has played at various locations around Gothenburg, including Utby (near Kviberg), Valhalla, and several other fields and football grounds. In the early days, coir matting was used on grass, with Valhalla offering the unique experience of playing on artificial turf. When Torslanda airport closed in the 1970s and moved to Landvetter, GCC secured a permanent, full-size ground with a proper pitch at Torslanda, situated between two landing strips. This ground, with its well-maintained pitch and additional facilities like a cemented practice pitch and nets, was considered the best in Sweden at the time.

However, by the late 1980s, many expatriates working for Volvo had left the country, leading to a new wave of players, including students from Chalmers University, joining the club. Despite challenges in fielding a full team, GCC continued to thrive. Unfortunately, in the late 1990s, the expansion of a golf club resulted in the loss of the Torslanda ground. The early 2000s saw a brief pause in senior men’s cricket, but GCC persevered, focusing on youth development for players aged 10-15. As these youngsters graduated and moved on, new students from Chalmers and other universities revitalized the club, bringing back senior men’s cricket.

Today, GCC proudly boasts nearly 100 members, with around 50 active players. We have four full men’s teams competing in the Allsvenskan, Superettan, and Division 1 leagues, a full women’s team, and youth teams for Under 15 and Under 19 players, ensuring a bright future for the club
